Italy, 1999 - A Photographic Extravaganza!

Cinque Terra - Corniglia

This is Corneglia, one of the five Cinque Terre towns. The train station is down near sea level. We had to walk up the hillside to the town. We forgot to check train times until after we had gotten off here. We had to kill 4 hours (oh the pain, the pain!) until the last train of the day came through and brought us back to Levanto, where the car was parked.

Cinque Terra - Riomaggiore

The next day we drove down the coast to the last town in line, Riomaggiore. Cute town. This is the main street down to the tiny harbour.

Milano Duomo

This is the over the top duomo in Milan. It took 800 years to complete, urged on by Napoleon. It's gorgeous, though, and one of the few examples of Gothic architecture in Italy.

Milan's Galleria

Milan's Galleria, the glass roofed shopping mall next to the duomo. It is exactly as you'd expect a mall to be; just like any shopping mall in the US. Well, except it's a hundred years old and is all Victorian looking and cool and stuff! Otherwise, yeah, just like one in the US.

Milan's Fortezza

This is the west wall of Milan's fortress. The moat, now filled and covered in grass, is below. Ivy covers the 60 foot high walls.

Venice

Venice's Grand Canal from the Ponte di Scalzi, near the train station.

Venice

Venice's Grand Canal from the Ponte Rialto. Kinda looks the same as from the Scalzi, doesn't it?

St Mark's Basilica

It rained the morning we were there so lots of folks in Piazza San Marco were under their umbrellas. We waited out the storm under an awning and then later in a cafe on the Piazza itself. The afternoon was gorgeous. The clouds left and the city was washed clean from the rain.
